Though there are many locations that claim to be the birthplace of Mongolian leader Genghis Khan, Delüün Boldog is one of the strongest contenders. Genghis was born in 1162; in the more than 850 years since, the area, which is located at the confluence of the Onon and Balj Rivers near Mongolia's present-day border with Russia, has unveiled monuments and attractions to the emperor to attract tourists.

In 1879, Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany. He spent the first 15 years of his life in the country before moving to Switzerland to attend school, going so far as to renounce his German citizenship. He lived and worked in Zurich and Bern for much of his adult life before finding scientific success and moving back to Germany. Then, with World War II looming, he moved to the United States for the remainder of his life.

To date, eight of the United States' 46 Presidents have been born in the state of Virginia. Of those, four were among the first five leaders of the executive branch: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe. The other four are William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson.

Before uniting England through a series of conquests in the Middle Ages, William the Conqueror, also known as William I, was born in France. By birth, the future first king of England was to become the Duke of Normandy, a position he inherited at the age of 7 upon his father's death. A few years later, he crossed the English Channel, conquered the country, and claimed the English throne.

According to legend, Zeus, the king of all the Greek gods, was born in a cave on the island of Crete. The youngest child of Cronus and Rhea, Zeus had to be born in secret due to his father's murderous tendencies. Fearful of a prophetic curse saying that he would be overthrown by one of his children, Cronus had eaten the five gods Rhea bore before Zeus. To save her youngest son, a pregnant Rhea hid in a cave in the Cretan mountains.

Alexander the Great was born in the city of Pella, Macedonia — what is present-day Greece — in 356 BCE. The son of King Philip II, Alexander was destined for power but achieved more than even the loftiest of expectations. By the time he was 30, Alexander had overthrown the Persian empire, stretched his lands to India, and conquered almost the entire known world.

Napoleon was born on the small French island of Corsica in 1769 and died on the small British island of St. Helena in 1821. In between, he rose from humble beginnings to become the Emperor of France and conquer much of Europe. Due to his birthplace, many called the masterful military commander "The Corsican."

In 1564, William Shakespeare was born in the English town of Stratford-Upon-Avon, which, as its name suggests, is located on the banks of the River Avon. The legendary playwright's birthplace is a small, half-timbered Tudor family home on the town's Henley Street, which is now a tourist attraction.

Marie Antoinette was born in 1755 in Vienna, Austria. The 11th daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Francis I and Maria Theresa, she was only 14 years old when she married the future King Louis XVI. Marie Antoinette was famously disliked by the public for a variety of reasons, including her foreign upbringing. Eventually, the people revolted during the French Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the monarchy and the execution of the Austrian-born royal.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky. He went on to become the first U.S. President born outside the original 13 colonies, and the first born in a log cabin. Though the cabin — which had dirt floors and no windows — no longer stands today, a replica has been built in Lerna, Illinois, where tourists can pay their respects to Honest Abe.
