16%In 2000, archaeologists found a fake toe in the tomb of a female mummy buried in Luxor, Egypt. The toe was made from a mixture of linen, glue, and plaster, much like modern papier-mâché. Initially, researchers thought the appendage was ornamental, but further studies showed it was likely used as a prosthetic to help disabled people walk.
